FEINT ATTACKS, PART I

(History of the Hanko Group, T-22005, Military Archives of Finland)

21st of September 1941

- In September and in October artillery together with infantry set up a several feint attacks. The purpose of these was to distract the enemy and make them nervous. Also the enemy was in this way lured to reveal its positions and nests. It was also thought that this would be a good way to reduce the ammunition supplies of the Russian troops, which was thought to be a low one. On 21st of September the first of these feint attacks took place. At 23:14 all of the batteries in Snalo section fired against enemy batteries, nests and positions. The same was repeated again after 15 minutes, after which all of the motorboats in the first line were started. After this, the mortars, AA-guns and heavy infantry weapons opened fire against the enemy islands in the first line.

Corporal H. Hartella and Major L. Henriksson.

Sauna, Picture 1

- A wartime sauna can be found near of the staff area.

Sauna, Picture 2

- The stove still lies at the bottom of the sauna remains.

Sauna, Picture 3

- This is a rather special find from the Harparskog-line. This sauna would not be included in this presentation if the local summer residents on whose yard the sauna is located, would have not invited us to take a look at it. So a big thank you for them!

Sauna in 1941

- Most likely the same sauna in 1941. Unfortunately the picture doesn't show the surroundings more, which makes pinpointing the actual location impossible with full certainty. (Picture: The Finnish Defence Forces. Published 1942 in a book Hangö Belägras)
