DUGOUT REMAINS

FEINT ATTACKS, PART II

(History of the Hanko Group, T-22005, Military Archives of Finland)

21st of September 1941

- This hellish concert had the desired effect. The Russians clearly showed their nervousness and fired several flares, which illuminated the whole area. Additionally the Russian heavy infantry weapons opened heavy fire immediately. From Grislom and Vrakholm the Russian AA-guns opened fire. At the same time the heavy AA-machine guns guns in Hermansö started to fire too. The information received from one prisoner about the fact that Russian artillery could open fire only with the authorization from the higher commander, was confirmed by the fact, that the artillery opened fire only one hour after the mortars in Hästö-Busö, Tvärminne, Brännskär and in Hermansö had already started to fire.

Corporal H. Hartella and Major L. Henriksson.

- The same remains as in the previous picture, seen from an opposite direction.

Dugout remains, Picture 7

- There are some rusted metal parts at the bottom of some dugout remains. It is not advisable to start digging these, when one remembers what was found from the Bredvik area. Although the rusted object in the picture looks more of a sink, you never know what is under that.
