COMMUNIQUÉ 20.07.41 - 21.07.41, PART II

(Communiqué and reports of the Hanko Group units, T-16432/1742, Military Archives of Finland)

20th of July 1941

- Our own artillery fire has started a fire in Gråö. The enemy movement is still active in the islands east of Bengtsår and also in the west shore of Koverhar. A possible bridge or rafts are being built in the deep bay on the west shore of Koverhar.

- Koverhar is still being fortified actively, especially in both of the peninsulas, which are towards Öby. Few small fires has started in the area of Öby, but these have been extinguished quickly. At 19:15 o'clock the enemy started a Finnish language propaganda broadcast from Koverhar. At 23:00 sounds of a tank movement was heard from Koverhar, as well as car movements and horse-drawn vehicle movements.

- Unfortunately the structure 51 cannot be found from the area, which the fortification map points out.

- According to the map symbols the structure 51 was an open gun position build from concrete and armed with two 47mm guns. Additionally observation and fire control position should have been close to the position. This kind of structure however cannot be found from the area and actually the area does not contain any remains from any defensive objects.

- What makes it difficult to be absolutely sure that this structure was never constructed is that part of the area has been fenced off due to a summer cottage yard. It might be that the position is located inside the extensive yard, but that is impossible to check.

- The picture shows a view towards the island of Störön from the area where the structure 51 should be located. The two guns located in the structure would have defended against any enemy troops trying to approach Störön.
