AJAN SUUNTA REPORTS, PART I:

RUSSIANS WHO ARE LEAVING FROM HANKO, WILL BE DESTROYED!

RUSSIANS STARTED TO EVACUATE HANKO DURING THE LAST TUESDAY

4th of December 1941

- As the enemy has been forced to evacuate Hanko, its transport ships have been subjected partly to a similar destruction, to which they were subjected when the enemy evacuated Tallinn. Like it has been previously stated, our coastal artillery and navy have sunk some enemy ships already in the previous stages of this evacuation operation. Additionally the enemy has lost ships to the mines. Along with these losses, our coastal artillery has now inflicted new losses to the enemy. In the area of Porkkala - Helsinki, our coastal artillery has sunk two enemy ships. Third ship was seen of being destroyed in a huge explosion, where the flames and smoke raise to hundreds of meters. Additionally the transport ship "Josef Stalin" has been damaged so, that it was floating in the sea, out of control and finally ended to the shores of Estonia. There it raised a white flag and surrendered. Eight hundred prisoners were captured from the ship. Also at least one enemy destroyer has been damaged.

- The above mined corridor is the entrance into the structure number 49. At least in the planning stages, it was a gun position. Searching for this structure took awhile, because the remains is filled so effectively. Clearly the construction of the position has been at least started.

- Closer view to the entrance.

- Pile of stones, which are covered with moss lies nearby. These have appeared here, when the position has been mined.

- Behind of the previous position is also some other pits, which have disappeared nearly completely. These are either part of the structure 49 or 453. Both of the structures have been included in the same gallery, as in their current condition, it is impossible to say which belongs to which structure number.

- Barbed wire lies nearby.

- The time has taken its toll on the barbed wire.

- View from the rock, which raises behind of the structures. Hanko Cape can be dimly seen in the distance.
