COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF'S ORDER OF THE DAY N.O. 35, PART I
(History of the Hanko Group, T-22005, Military Archives of Finland)
7th of December 1941
Swedish volunteers.
- For the Finnish people, the road to the independency and freedom has been full of battles. Third time, within the past twenty-three years, it again stands against the onslaught of the giant from east. During the struggle of our people, we have always found friends, helpers and companion in arms from the old western sister nation. This happened in 1918, this happened during the Winter War, which was fought two years ago, and it happened now again when the enemy during the last summer, again attacked against the small Finnish nation.
- Your task, Swedish companion in arms, has been to stand against the threat which was aimed against the heart of Finland and towards west, from the fortified naval base, which was taken with a blackmail in the forced peace agreement of Moscow and was located in the vital area of western Finland. This threat in the Baltic Sea area has now collapsed and our enemy has been forced to abandon the area of Hanko.
- The meaning of the Swedish volunteers has been very significant and important for us in the battles of the Hanko
Front. The meaning of the volunteer strength in numbers has been less than the meaning of their internal strength, which is included in the understanding, that the brave men of our sister nation, have been ready to fight and sacrifice themselves for the freedom and future of Finland and for the whole Scandinavia.
