SABOTEUR?

(History of the Hanko Group, T-22005, Military Archives of Finland)

21st of October 1941

- On 21st of October 1941 a suspicious man appeared to the north side of the 19th Battery positions. This man tried to take a boat from the shore, but after failing to do that, the man left to the direction of Norrgård. A patrol was sent after the man, with strength of 1 + 20. This patrol searched the areas of Norrgård and Södergård, but without a result. After this incidence guarding was intensified.

454, Picture 1

- The bunker has been sunken into the ground very effectively and during the summer time not much is visible from the nearby road. One of the most easiest way to try to spot the bunkers from the terrain, is to try to find the familiar "iron mushrooms" as usually those can be seen even in a dense forest.

454, Picture 2

- A lot of garbage has been poured into the entrance.

454, Picture 3

- The entrance has been badly damaged from the garbage and from the fact that water now covers the interiors and is filling also the entrance.

454, Picture 4

- The ladders which once has lead you safely inside.

454, Picture 5

- A familiar shape.

454, Picture 6

- Another thing that gets very familiar while walking through the fortification line in the Harparskog area. Barbed wire is all around in the terrain.

454, Picture 7

- Imagine how great the Lion of Finland and the bunker number must have looked, when these constructions were brand new. Although now as moss gently covers everything, it does give certain dignity to these monuments of war, even when people have damaged some of them very badly.

454, Picture 8

- Near of the bunker is a remains from a construction unknown, as it is not shown in any of the fortification maps. It is unknown to me whether or not this is at all related to the Harparskog-line.

454, Picture 9

- Still these remains have remained here for a while, as trees now grow on top of the foundations.

454, Picture 10

- Near of the previous structure foundations, is another remains which is just barely visible. Still a pit has been dug right next to a massive rock and the edges of the construction are still visible. Purpose of these two constructions is unknown.
