THE LAST RUSSIN BASE IN SNALO SECTION, PART V

(History of the Hanko Group, T-22005, Military Archives of Finland)

4th of December 1941

- There was no sign from those three Russians who had fired our troops on the previous days. Our troops didn’t also encounter any resistance. All of the civilian buildings were either burned of shot to pieces. A large amount of dugouts, machine gun nests and battery positions was found from the island. The Russians have had also a 130mm battery in Hästö-Busö, which contained three guns. The barrel of one of the guns was intact, but the others were broken. The whole fort looked a much cleaner than rest of the Russian islands. Although here also a lot of useless junk and rubbish were in the storages and in sheds. The Russians had taken everything valuable with them when evacuating the island.

446, Picture 1

- The shoreline of the island of Bastholmen. It is most likely, that the mined structure of 446 can be still found from the island, as all of the summer cottages are in the shoreline and the structure is located away from the shoreline. Unfortunately the shores of Bastholmen are so full of summer cottages, that it is impossible to anchor a boat, without causing disturbance. I would be grateful, if some resident of the island, could give us a permission to anchor. This way the structure 446 could be also documented.
