THE RUSSIANS ARE LEAVING, PART II

(History of the Hanko Group, T-22005, Military Archives of Finland)

3rd of December 1941

- No war material was found in this first inspection, which would have any special value. Only some rifle bullets, exploding bullets, hand grenades, helmets and huge quantities of other unsorted junk. In the southern part of Hermansö near the well preserved bridge where there was also several storages and officer dugouts, there was several destroyed rubber boats, a sturdy wooden whaling boat and a 14 boxes of AA-gun grenades sunk into the sea. Radio transmitter was found from the shore and also some other communication equipment. Here and there was also some other equipment. These findings prove, that the “tenant” had been in a hurry to leave the island. While searching the island later, an anti-tank gun was found. Seventy of its ammunition was sunk into the sea.

Corporal H. Hartella and Major L. Henriksson.

- Structure 440/449 can be still found from the area, but taking a picture from the whole structure is impossible. The edges of the structure have collapsed and trees and bushes now cover the remains. The above picture shows the embrasure of the structure. Both of the structures have been included in this same gallery, as the remains is so big that it is safe to assume that both of the structures have been included in this one structure during the construction. The firing direction is the same, which is shown in the fortification card.
