THE LAST RUSSIAN BASE IN SNALO SECTION, PART III

(History of the Hanko Group, T-22005, Military Archives of Finland)

3rd of December 1941

- The information that Hästö-Busö was occupied was confirmed now. In order to receive an accurate information that how many Russian troops there was in the island and to check possible landing sites, Section Vanne was ordered to move out again and perform this reconnaissance. At 16:00 on the same they moved out again towards Hästö-Busö. The patrol reached the nearby area of the island at dusk, so they decided not to land to the island. The boats stopped at Öklubben shoal, from where they tried to probe the possible landing sites for the occupying forces. At the same time our artillery fired to the eastern shore of Hästö-Busö.

Corporal H. Hartella and Major L. Henriksson.

- Several different remains can be found from the area to where structure 437 was planned and most likely build. The above structure is located closer to the gun position 46, a & b, than the area to where structure 437 was planned. It is difficult to say from the above position, whether or not it has been mined to the rock or if the shape is formed by nature.

437, Picture 2

- Some iron bars have been attached next to the structure shown in the previous picture.

437, Picture 3

- Nearby is also a one dugout remains where the shape of the structure is in good condition, although the structure is covered by water. The shape of the remains is however easy to notice.

437, Picture 4

- The entrance to the dugout can be still seen in the remains.

437, Picture 5

- Next to the previous remains is also some small position, apparently mined to the rock.

437, Picture 6

- View from the previous position towards the channel, which goes past Odensö.

437, Picture 7

- Several stone piles can be found from the area, where structure 437 according to the map was located. The stones have been clearly created during the mining job.

437, Picture 8

- Some bolts with screws still attached to them have been attached to the rock.

437, Picture 9

- Only one position remain nearby. There probably has been a big mined structure in the area also, but that one has been filled completely years ago.

437, Picture 10

- A summer cottage is was being build right next to the position, but the person constructing the summer cottage confirmed, that the structure itself was preserved. A big thank you for the person of conforming this.
