THE LAST RUSSIAN BASE IN SNALO SECTION, PART I

(History of the Hanko Group, T-22005, Military Archives of Finland)

3rd of December 1941

- The last but a strong enemy base in Snalo section was the island of Hästö-Busö. Three Russians were noticed on 3rd of December firing their gun against our men moving in the waters of Hästö. At 11:00 Major Nordenstreng gave an order to Lieutenant Vanne to check Hästö-Busö and to occupy it. Section Vanne moved from Långholmen at 12:08 with two iron boats. They moved the boats past the southern side of Pattskär in order to land to the eastern shore of Hästö-Busö.

Corporal H. Hartella and Major L. Henriksson.

- Such a remains cannot be found from the structure 435, which would suit to the structure type, which is shown in the map. A summer cottage now stands on the place, where the map symbol has been placed. That place would have been the best area to construct a machine gun bunker/dugout.

- There is also some stones nearby, which have come from the mining job. However no mined structure can be found from the area.

435, Picture 3

- There is however a well preserved dugout remains nearby.

435, Picture 4

- What is surprising is that a piece from a phone cable with insulation attached to it, still hangs on the edge of the dugout. The cable continues underground to somewhere.
