THE FIRST ACTIONS IN THE SNALO SECTION, PART I

(History of the Hanko Group, T-22005, Military Archives of Finland)

25th of June 1941

- The first real actions in the Snappertuna section, which was later called as Snalo section, happened on 25th of June. At that time the enemy batteries located in Hästö-Busö fired the island of Jussarö. Between 06:57 – 08:58 a total of 55 grenades landed to Jussarö. Most of these were three-inch caliber shells. These didn’t cause any damage. Only few men were slightly wounded. The 56. LK with its six-inch caliber guns responded to this firing, with good results.

Corporal H. Hartella and Major L. Henriksson.

423, Picture 1

- A faint memory from the structure 423. This pit is the only one which can be found from the general area to which this structure has been marked in the map. However as the area also contains two mined structures, which have not been marked into the map, it might be that the plan was changed here a bit. After those unfinished structures would have been completed, there probably would have not been any need for a weak accommodation dugout. The two bunkers from which mined structures are now visible, could have provided shelter to more than a twenty men, amount which was indicated for structure 423.
