INSPECTING THE 19th AND 21st FIELD BATTERIES, PART III

17th of June 1941

- In a nearby woods there was four 120 K/78 guns and beside them a pile of rusted ammunitions and ammunition boxes. Here I also met the commander of 19th Battery 2nd Lieutenant Österlund, who reported of starting gun drills for the men and that he had found accommodation for the men. He did complain, that he cannot start a good training, because he doesn’t have a single non-commissioned officer, who would know this gun model and additionally the battery is lacking completely the aiming devices.

- At this point I decided to send a conscript non-commissioned officer as an instructor to these two batteries. As there was aiming devices only in one of the two batteries, it was agreed that both of the batteries would practice aiming in turns and the other one would in the mean time have a formal gun training.

- The steep edge into the mined structure which now is partly covered with water. The mined structure is a huge one. When finished, this one would have looked like the bunkers in Hanko Cape.

- Pile of stones is the familiar sight when walking through the defensive line in the east and west side of Hanko Cape. Not much was completed on the left and right flank of Hanko Cape, as the permanent fortification job was started rather late, because resources were needed in Hanko Cape, which was the most important area.
