KARJALAINEN REPORTS:
FINLAND WILL STILL NEED THE HELP OF THE VOLUNTEERS
16th of March 1940
- The Finnish committee published an announcement on Wednesday, saying that now that peace has been agreed between Finland and Russia, there is 9 000 Swedish volunteers in the Finnish soil. Another 5 000 has been registered. This is the result of recruiting actions, which was started before the comrade association of the regiments and the troops in north started their own recruiting.
- If this movement could have worked with full speed, the numbers would have grown significantly. The resent times tell clearly, that it has started to become obvious for the Swedish men, that Sweden needs to help Finland more. As this has been possible only by volunteering, more and more men have announced their willingness to fight in the volunteer troops.
- Now that the peace has been made, the question that what should be done with the volunteer troops has come up. With all urgency, it must be emphasized, that Finland will need the help of the volunteers still for a long time. The peace agreement paragraphs must be carried out and the land must be free from the enemy, before the volunteer troops can be disbanded. In between of the Swedish volunteer troops and the eastern border, there are still huge Russian forces. That is why those volunteers who are still
travelling to their units, will be gathered to Tornio. The date for the final disbanding cannot be yet ordered.

- Not much is visible anymore from the structure 403.
The walls can be pointed out as can be the entrance, but otherwise to a
casual passerby this one might just look like a pile of stones.

- The view from the front side.

- The most likely entrance to the structure 403.
There is not much remaining from this structure and the area contains
several dugout remains, which makes it rather difficult to be absolutely
sure which one is the 403.
