EXCERPT FROM THE FLIGHT LOG OF RECONNAISSANCE AND BOMBER FLIGHT

(History of the Hanko Group, T-22005, Military Archives of Finland)

1st of December 1941

- Reconnaissance flight: 1.12.1941. Time: 15:15 - 16:40.

- Observations: Two transport ships spotted in the Hanko anchorage. Smoke was coming from the funnels. One G-class destroyer is behind of the transport ships. Two motor boats and two Fugas-class ships are near of the transport ships. One of the transport ships has one motor boat near of it and the second transport ship has two motor boats close by. One submarine is anchored to the north-west side of Russarö. One icebreaker is in the north-west shore of Uddskatan. Smoke is coming from the funnel. Heavy AA-fire coming against the plane. Most likely from 76mm guns. Rest of the sea area between Hanko - Porkkala is empty from enemy surface vessels.

- The dug and partly mined pit which is indicated by the fortification card, cannot be found from the area anymore. The soil and stones, which have come from the digging and mining of the structure, can be however found piled to a stack. This is all that remains from the structure 311. When completed the structure would have been a machine gun bunker equipped with an observation cupola.

- The stones, which are in the pile, contain traces from the mining job.
