COMMUNIQUÈ, AIR ACTIVITY:

(Communiqués and reports of the Hanko Group, T-16432/1742, Military Archives of Finland)

3. October - 4. October 1941

- Russian I-153 type fighter plane flew from east towards west over Skåldö most likely attempting to reach Hanko. Judging from the noise, the engine of the plane was malfunctioning.

- At 08:23 o'clock the plane crash-landed in Skärlandet to the fields located in Solbacka. The pilot started to fight against the men, who were sent to investigate the plane. In the fight the pilot got shot. One of our own men got wounded slightly to the leg. The Russian pilot was poorly equipped. The pilot had no insignias to show his rank.

- Only the propeller, landing gear and one level from the biplane was damaged. Markings in the maps of the pilot indicate, that the plane was from the Hanko base. No confirmation to this however has not been received.

- The bunker number 305 is located at the shore of the Vitsjön Lake. Vegetation is covering the bunker quite effectively.

- The bunker is in a rather bad shape from the outside as well as from the inside.

- Entrance seen a bit further away.

- These metal boxes can be found from nearly every bunker, normally attached to the wooden front door. This one was lying nearby in the ground.

305, Picture 5

- Interiors in the accommodation area. Judging from the watermarks on the wall, the water does get quite high here during the heavy rains and in spring when the snow starts to melt.

305, Picture 6

- Cramped interiors.

305, Picture 7

- The embrasure for the machine gun has been blocked with a metal bar.

305, Picture 8

- The rusty embrasure for the 45mm anti-tank gun seen from the outside.

- Still staring to the lake...
