ARTILLERY FIRE TO KRONHOLM, PART I

(Teasing the encirclement of Hanko, Adolf Molnár)

(Kronholm is today known with the name of Stora Järpholmen)

September 1941 to October 1941

- The morning mist is still wrapping the Kronholm, Ekholmen and the mainland into its veil and no Russians are to be seen anywhere. Who knows what they are thinking at this very moment? Perhaps some was talking with a political officer, who would soon see the sun shining for the last time. Perhaps some was dreaming about his old mother, who is praying for his son in Hanko Cape. Who knows what the young Russians are thinking, generation that only knows the current command and sees the past through the propaganda of the party. No one knows and that is the main point. War is war. We did not ask them to come to Hanko or to Vyborg. They came with a force and now they will pay.

303, Picture 1

- General view of the area.

303, Picture 2

- A smile...

303, Picture 3

- A watchful eye...

303, Picture 4

- Entrance into the bunker, which is being protected by the splinter protection. That particular construction is a very typical one for the bunkers that were armed only with one machine gun.

303, Picture 5

- Metal bar is still attached to the hook, which can be found from all of the bunkers.

303, Picture 6

- Lion of Finland, but the marking for the construction year has been badly damaged. Remains from the -40 mark is still visible, but it's like someone would have scratched the mark off.

303, Picture 7

- Rusted and corroded door into the bunker.

303, Picture 8

- Hinges could use some oil.

303, Picture 9

- Open...

303, Picture 10

- Open again, but now upside down, like it appears in the door.

303, Picture 11

- And closed...

303, Picture 12

- Trench line can be seen leaving from the bunker and finally if you follow this trench line, you will end up to the accommodation bunker 451.

303, Picture 13

- This bunker 303 is pointing towards the intersection area. In the 1940's, that intersection was a very busy one, as it was the main road in and out of Hanko. Today it serves only as a secondary road and it is not possible with a car to follow the old Leksvall road like it went in the 1940's.

303, Picture 14

- Metal bar and the chimney flue stripped naked.
