OCCUPYING LILLA LÅNGHOLMEN, PART II

(History of the Hanko Group, T-22005, Military Archives of Finland)

30th of November 1941

- The patrol didn’t notice anybody moving in Valterholmen either. Additionally the patrol found three more machine gun nests and one covered light machine gun nest and a barbed wire obstacle, which separated the western peninsula of the island, from the rest of the island. While returning to Björkholmen, some enemy was noticed moving in Hästö. 2nd Lieutenant Maislisch fired the enemy with his sub-machine gun. The patrol was fired through out the mission by Russian artillery with four to five grenades every 15 minutes. The firing came from the direction of Tvärminne, but the accuracy in which the firing followed the patrol, showed that the fire control position must have been located in Hästö.

Corporal H. Hartella and Major L. Henriksson.

- Entrance into the cave. If one compares this structure to the fortification card for the structure 227, a & b, it becomes clear that there is a mistake either in the fortification card or in the numbering of the structures. This structure 228 can be found exactly from the place, where map indicates it to be. Additionally the firing direction is the same.

- View from the top of the structure, towards the island of Tallholmen. The cave entrance has been partly surrounded by a fence, so that no one falls accidentally into the cave.
