RECONNAISSANCE MISSION TO TESTAMENT, PART I

(Teasing the encirclement of Hanko, Adolf Molnár & History of the Hanko Group, T-22005, Military Archives of Finland)

(If there is differences in the name of the places in 1941 and today, italic text inside the closures has been used to indicate the name of the place today)

1st of September 1941

(This was the very first canoe patrol made by the Finnish forces)

- I am supposed to go today to the island of Rågholmen with 2nd Lieutenant Wahlroos and with five men. However before that mission, another reconnaissance mission will be made to the island of Testament (Testamentan). That island offers excellent view to observe the island of Bengtsår. As Captain Herrgård watched his maps, which showed the Finnish positions, but the Russian held islands were blank, he gave his permission to make a reconnaissance mission into Testament (Testamentan).

- On the night of 2nd of September the boat closed silently the island. The boys listened carefully if there is any movement in the island. They just couldn't occupy the island with force. Few shots were fired from Bengtsår and few flares are seen rising from the direction. The boats reach the shore and Johnny jumps to the shore with his sub-machine gun. Beachhead has been captured. The boats and men are camouflaged carefully as the sun starts to rise slowly from the east.
