RECONNAISSANCE IN FORCE IN THE SNAPPERTUNA SECTION, PART I
(Hanko Cape in the Second World War, Niilo Lappalainen)
3rd of September 1941
- One of the many reconnaissance operations made in the Snappertuna section during the night of 2nd of September to 3rd of September was made in the archipelago of Snappertuna. The mission was carried out in the south side islands of Elgö and the whole action was marked by a hasty preparations. The order for the mission was given at 15:20 o'clock on 2nd of September. The purpose of the mission was to clear out the islands on the south side of Stoskör from Russian troops and occupy Stoskär and Gloskär. Two attack teams were assembled under the command of Captain B. Kytöpuro.
- At the same evening, the attack started at 22:00 o'clock with three boats. As the whole mission was executed in haste, there was no time to practice and no artillery was used, even when it was reserved for the mission. It was a clear evening and the commands and noise from the boats most likely were heard far away. The group searched few islands, without finding any enemy troops located in them. The Russians in the main target area however had noticed the Finnish troops and they had few hours to prepare for the fight.

-
There is a one big dugout remains in the area where the structure 204 is
suppose to be located. Additionally the area holds few smaller remains.
- The same dugout remains seen from a bit different
angle.

-
There is some smaller remains in the area. Most of them would seem to be a
single man shelters.

-
The remains have been covered under the dead branches.

-
The nearby hill contains remains from a machine gun nest.
